Kern's Jobless Rate Highest in 2 Years  The unemployment rate in Kern County was 10.0 percent in February 2008, up from a revised 9.8 percent in January 2008, and above the year-ago estimate of 9.1 percent, according to figures released by the California Employment Development Department. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 6.1 percent for California and 5.2 percent for the nation during the same period. It's the highest unemployment rate in Kern County in more than two years as more than 2,600 jobs were lost from January to February. |
