Business Windows October by Gaylen Young One of the tenants of good writing is to try to write what you know. That’s one reason I often refer to businesses that I’ve become acquainted with during the course of the month, and I try to pass-on to you what I then “know” about that business. Most often those businesses are fascinating or have interesting histories. And since I have been charged by the editors to seek out interesting businesses with fascinating histories, that seems to work for me. |

Business Windows  Apollo 13 Commander Jim Lovell once said "There are people who make things happen, there are people who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what has happened." I remember Lovell telling the Bakersfield Business Conference that to be successful in life or in business, you had to "make things happen." That's one reason why successful people are successful. They make things happen and are passionate about their efforts even when everything around them may suggest otherwise. Some call it living the American Dream. |

Business Windows: August 2008 By Gaylen Young Just a few short weeks left of summer now, and kids will be heading back to school. It seems like the summers are getting shorter and shorter and the school year is getting longer and longer. My youngest son will start high school this year, which is amazing to me. (Actually what’s amazing is I’m getting so old that all my kids are through with school except this last one.) |
